We were recently invited to attend and participate in the World Diabetes Day events at a local hospital : North York General. Their collaboration with the Central LIHN on a Centre for Complex Diabetes Care (CCDC) (Healthcare professionals interested in learning about the CCDC’s click here) enabled the hospital staff to put on a pretty impressive display of educational booths, some messages from the Minister of Health and other dignitaries, and some amazing entertainment as well (we wish we took a video of a girl singing John Lennon’s Imagine). We took this photo of one of their displays showing the sugar content of some popular foods.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch (pictured below front and centre with sugar cubes infront to represent sugar content), and sugary drinks you expect to have a lot of sugar, but to actually see it in front of you like this is very effective.
