Dear Patients,
The Allevio Clinic has been trying to find government support and strategic partnerships to keep the practice viable and has held off announcements with the expectation that one of these avenues would lead the practice to more stable ground. These efforts have not been successful and so, the beloved Allevio practice has closed.
The Allevio Med Legal team are connecting with pain practitioners and facilities across Ontario to compile a list of other available services and wait times to help ensure our patients find care with (hopefully) local resources who have the capacity to help quickly and to ensure patients end up in front of the appropriate clinician. That team will soon share those pathways with patients and physicians. Before referring to any other clinic, please visit:
• Health Quality Ontario’s standards for chronic pain care
• The Ministry of Health’s approved, trusted and funded chronic pain clinics
OHIP’s ongoing erosion of claims, the Ontario Ministry of Health holding back earmarked funding for a handful of clinics trusted by teaching hospitals (including the Allevio Clinic), inflation, shutdown-driven inefficiencies, a lack of clarity in directives between infection control and emergency support risks, as well as fluctuation in standards of care and practice mandates have all contributed to the practice closure.
The last 10 years brought together an outstanding team of warm, gifted clinicians with a community of inspiring and determined patients like no other. I’m humbled to have had the opportunity to facilitate such a positive contribution to our community, and I thank everyone involved over the last 10 years for your role in helping to improve the way the world manages pain.
Thank you so much, we all appreciate your trust,
Ross Hendin
