JOB PURPOSE

The Neurologist will be a keystone in our multi-disciplinary medical team, supporting colleagues, maintaining a clinical practice, and potentially participating in 3rd party research and practice. They diagnose, treat and manage the ongoing care of patients suffering from disorders of the nervous system. All physicians on Allevio’s teamwork in collaboration with colleagues to perform all professional duties specific to the role of Neurology in pain and headache management. The position may provide opportunity for leadership and / or administration of a neurological patient program or research.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the delivery physical and neurologist examinations to patients with a wide variety of conditions, such as injuries and fractures (including accident injuries), workplace injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, neurological conditions.
  • Order diagnostic tests such as blood tests, spinal fluid tests, and imaging tests such as MRIs, where appropriate.
  • Diagnose conditions and disorders based on physical and cognitive exams, and test results.
  • Develop treatment plans, and manage and adapt treatment of patients depending on progress.
  • Communicate with clinical team to ensure patients receive the best possible care.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends in your area of expertise.
  • Communicate treatment plans and home care instructions to patients.
  • Evaluate clinical data on patient admission and as needed to assess the physical status of patients.
  • Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, medical professionals and other sources.
  • Conduct regular discussions with patients.
  • Explain medication effects and side-effects upon admission with review of the Patient Medication Information (PMI) for each medication.
  • Direct laboratory or diagnostic tests to provide information on the patient’s general physical and medical condition.
  • Perform treatments ordered by other physicians.
  • Participate and provide attention to all medical aspects with the Individual Plan of Service for each patient.
  • Evaluate, approve and sign all Individual Plans of Service and perform scheduled reviews.
  • Prescribe, follow-up and review all medications.
  • Completing medical documentation and input patient data in the clinic’s electronic medical record in a timely and professional fashion.
  • Participate in staff development and in-service education programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information according to applicable regulations.
  • Maintain the highest standard of professional ethics.
  • Perform other assignments as requested.

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  • D. Degree; Board Eligible or Board-Certified Physician.
  • Minimum 3 years’ working experience required.
  • Experience in a hospital or private clinic environment preferred.
  • Candidates require a license in good standing and must be able to acquire registration, licensing and applicable CMPA insurance to practice in Ontario.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management team.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification preferred.
  • Education and experience specific to pain management is an asset.
  • Experience with Independent Medical Evaluations/Examinations is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to integrate Client-centered care into clinical practice.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible with approach and thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Able to generate new solutions and develop creative improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Excellent communication skills required to speak and write fluently in English ensuring clear and accurate understanding of instructions, information and delivery of care is provided.
  • Excellent relationship building skills are required.
  • Highly motivated with strong leadership skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full time with a minimum of 40 hours per week
  • Working with patients and medical staff in a clinical environment
  • Working with patients and medical staff through virtual care or Allevio’s offices

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting and supporting patients – Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Fast-paced environment
  • Frequent assistance of patients including but not limited to supporting their mobility
  • Wearing protective equipment as required
